Blackwater ended the year with their fifth win against two setbacks and now shares the second spot with the Big Chill Superchargers. Cafe France, which was coming off a morale-boosting upset of the NLEX Road Warriors, dropped into a tie with the Cagayan Rising Suns at the fourth and fifth spots with similar 4-3 marks.
Fortuna went 5-of-7 from the field in the first ten minutes of action as Blackwater quickly gained a double-digit edge after the first period.
Cafe France shot a measly 8-of-33 from the field for a 24.2% shooting clip after two quarters.
Blackwater’s domination continued in the second half as they posted their biggest margin of 29, 69-40, at the 9:10 mark of the fourth with a basket coming from Blackwater’s main man Kevin Ferrer.
Ferrer and Gio Ciriacruz combined for 21 points and twelve boards. Cafe France’s Roger Pogoy was the only Baker to breach the double digit mark with 11 points alongside seven rebounds.
“Dapat nanalo kami against NLEX but, even if we lost, it showed that we can play against the best. We just want to end the year with a win and hope to do well in our last three assignments,” said Blackwater coach Leo Isaac, whose team is coming off a 70-68 loss to the Road Warriors.
“Magandang pumunta ng Christmas party na galing sa panalo,” he added. Blackwater will be having a mini-celebration at the house of team owner Dioceldo Sy.
