`N Text officials plan to seek a clarification of the rules on
officiating from the PBA Commissioner’s Office in light of the physical
plays that marred Game Three of its Philippine Cup semifinals showdown
against Alaska on Wednesday night.
Coach Norman Black and team manager
Aboy Castro both plan to visit Commissioner Chito Salud at the league
office in Libis prior to the team’s scheduled 1 p.m. practice on
Thursday at the Moro Lorenzo gym.
Black and Castro are alarmed at the
way officials handled the game which saw the ejection of Alaska players
Calvin Abueva and Cyrus Baguio and the injury suffered by Talk `N Text
gunner Jayson Castro.
Castro had to leave the game
prematurely after being at the receiving end of two separate blows
courtesy of both Abueva and Baguio.
The heady Talk `N Text point guard was brought to the Makati Medical Center for a CT scan shortly after the match.
“Sabi ni Jayson kanina, parang
na-black out daw siya eh. Nahihilo pa siya. Kanina pa siya nakaupo dun
sa dugout,” Castro related to Spin.ph.
Black, on the other hand, said even
though the best-of-seven semis has become far more physical than it was
during the eliminations, he said he’s been telling his players,
particularly big man Aron Aban, to play tough but not dirty.
“I remember the foul of Aron versus
Calvin Abueva. I told him straight, I want us to play tough and play
physical, but we’re not out to hurt anybody,” said Black.
“But what happened tonight is just taking a player out. I don’t know anybody who can justify that,” he added.
Castro was first floored by a wayward
Abueva elbow as the Alaska rookie was going for a rebound shortly after
the Talk `N Text guard went strong for a basket.
The 6-foot-1 Abueva was slapped with a
technical foul, adding to an earlier flagrant foul penalty 1 he
committed for tripping Talk ‘N Text forward Harvey Carey during a dead
ball situation.
Abueva was automatically tossed out of
the game as per PBA rules, a player who incurs a technical foul and
flagrant foul penalty 1 will be ejected outright.
Castro, who went down after getting
hit on the neck, managed to pick himself up and sank the penalty shot,
giving the Tropang Texters an 83-68 advantage at the 6:45 mark.
Less than minute later, Castro was on
the floor again after being tagged hard by a Baguio forearm as he was
going for a fastbreak basket.
Castro stayed on the floor for about a minute as he tried to hold on to his face.
The former PCU star managed to split
his free throws afterwards, before being pulled out of the game and
escorted to the team dugout.
He finished the game with six points.
