Topex Robinson says he is focusing on his job as assistant coach of Alaska in the PBA. Jerome Ascano

FORMER coaches of San Sebastian are reportedly in the mix for the vacant mentoring job of the school, but Stags officials apparently haven’t reached out to them yet.
Topex Robinson said he hasn’t heard from his alma mater and isn’t thinking about a possible San Sebastian comeback at the moment as he tries to focus on his job as Alaska assistant coach, with the Aces currently in the midst of their semifinal campaign in the PBA Philippine Cup.
“Focus muna ako sa Alaska na nasa semis,” Robinson told Spin.ph. The articulate former point guard resigned as San Sebastian coach midway through the recent NCAA season.
San Sebastian has given coach Allan Trinidad his walking papers as the Stags head to a top-to-bottom revamp of the team following a parting of ways with top patron Dennis Pineda.
Robinson, however, said no one has contacted him about a possible return to his alma mater.
“Wala pa sinasabi sakin ang school, wala pa napag-uusapan on any future plans. Yung last time na nag-kausap eh noong nag-paalam ako,” he said.
“Yung mga players nakakausap ko naman, pero wala namang sinabi, bumati lang ng Merry Christmas.”
Turo Valenzona, who steered the Stags to five straight titles in the 1990s, said he had spoken with former Lubao mayor Dennis Pineda long before pulling out as San Sebastian benefactor, but the champion coach did not reveal whether a possible coaching change was discussed.
“Sa January pa makaka-pag-usap kasi on vacation pa ang mga pari,” Valenzona told Spin.ph. “Actually noon pa kami nakapag-usap ni Mayor Pineda tatakbo daw siya sa election, focus muna doon. Full time na muna sa pulitika.”
