AFTER the physical plays, the word war begins.
Just as Alaska coach Luigi Trillo
voiced out his opinion that shooting guard Cyrus Baguio should not be
suspended for Game Four of the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals, Talk `N
Text team manager Aboy Castro believes he should be.
The Tropang Texters official said
Baguio had the “intention to hurt” Jayson Castro, whom he hit with a
forearm as the Talk `N Text gunner was going for a fastbreak basket in
the final quarter of Game Three on Wednesday night at the Mall of Asia
Arena.
The defending champion won the match,
93-79, to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series, but it was left
without Castro in the remaining minutes of the highly-emotional
encounter after receiving his second blow for the night – the first of
which was courtesy of a wayward Calvin Abueva elbow.
It’s for this reason that Castro hopes
commissioner Chito Salud will slap an automatic suspension on the
high-flying Alaska guard when they play each other again on Friday.
“He (Baguio) wasn’t going after the ball. He had the intent to hurt,” said Castro later.
“I hope they (Commissioner’s Office)
take that into consideration … I think it should be an automatic
suspension, but the commissioner already said they will review the
tape.”
Baguio was called for flagrant foul penalty 2, which under PBA rules should merit outright suspension.
But Trillo insisted it’s not in the
nature of the soft-spoken Baguio to hurt a fellow player as can be
attested by his track record as a pro.
“Cyrus is not known for that, that was a duty foul,” claimed the Alaska coach in his post-game interview.
Trillo later on said he’ll be surprised if a suspension is coming the way of one of his top scorers.
“I’ll put the pressure on them and see
what they’re (PBA officials) gonna do,” said the young mentor. “I’ll be
shocked if Cy will be suspended.”
