NBA: All-Star Skills Competitions adopt East versus West format

The NBA has raised the stakes of their All-Star Saturday night events, by making it an East versus West showdown for charity, the league announced in an official release Thursday (Friday, PHL time).

"As part of the new format, points earned by each conference throughout the four All-Star Skills Competitions will determine the conference that earns the title of 2013 State Farm All-Star Saturday Night Champion. Also, each conference will have an All-Star Saturday Night captain who will lead his team during the event," the release said.

The Saturday events of the NBA's All-Star weekend include The Shooting Stars competition, involving NBA and WNBA players, as well as NBA legends, the Skills Challenge, an obstacle course for point guards, the Three-Point Contest and the Slam Dunk Contest.

The winning conference will get $350,000 for a charity of the captain's choice, while the losing side earns $150,000 for their cause.

The 2013 All-Star Weekend will be held in Houston, starting on February 15 (February 16, PHL time).  - AMD, GMA Newshttp://www.gmanetwork.com/news/story/287268/sports/basketball/nba-all-star-skills-competitions-adopt-east-versus-west-format
